Why We Chose Adoption

Our Family

We have one son, Parker, who is a thriving and active toddler. Alison went through fertility treatment to conceive Parker. Alison's pregnancy had some medical complications for her, and another would require daily injections and poses some risk. For medical reasons, Jordan has been encouraged not to become pregnant. Although Jordan is not biologically related to our son, he acts more like her than Alison most days! We strongly believe in the power of nurturing and want to give another child the ability to be the best they can be.

Parker is very excited to be a big brother and have a sibling to play with and share experiences. We know that Parker will be a protective and nurturing big brother. Parker most loves running and playing outside. We have a swingset and toy cabin in our backyard for outside fun that he adores. In the winter, he loves the snow, snowshoeing and sledding! We are hoping to teach him to ski soon. Parker also loves the beach, water and collecting rocks from the rocky beaches around our house. We love to have dance parties in our kitchen while singing our favorite songs. Parker is quite talkative and inquisitive and we are excited to see him as a big brother!

Our Lifestyle

Our Family Eating Ice Cream

We both work Monday through Friday, usually with a combination of office and remote work. Our jobs are flexible and allow us to be present and available for our family! While we are at work Parker goes to day care about ten minutes from our house. In the mornings Parker climbs into bed when his light comes on to wake us up. We read a couple books while getting dressed and eating breakfast. We take turns dropping and picking up Parker from school. Jordan works out during the day and sometimes Alison joins. Sometimes, we meet after work to walk around, get food, or go shopping downtown. We eat dinner together at our big, wooden table in the kitchen. Parker may or may not help with food prep. During and after dinner it's more books and playing in our living area. We make it a point to face time our family a few times during the week to catch up.

Weekends are generally a blur. We spend as much time outside the house as we can. There are so many activities in our area it can be hard to choose what to do. The majority of the time we hang out as a family unit. We really like playing trains on the floor or cars when we are inside. Every month we have someone visit us or we go visit someone else to stay in contact. Our lifestyle is low-key, and we do as much as we can to be sustainable.

Our Individual Strengths

Visiting the Beach

Our relationship definitely proves that opposites do attract!

Jordan is outgoing, funny and positive. She is able to keep the family laughing even in tough situations and reminds us to look at the bright side of every situation. Jordan likes to meet people and make sure that our social lives are active and rewarding. She also loves anything related to sports and has a strong work ethic.

Alison is more introverted and thrives in making calculations and doing research. She keeps the family on track with making the right financial and sustainable decisions for us. She also has an amazing patience which comes in handy with children especially when Parker wants to read his tenth or eleventh book of the night.

Both of us are hardworking and contribute financially to our family which allows us to truly have a an equal parenting style. Both moms contribute 50/50 to all family and household tasks. We love our family unit and its uniqueness and are excited to add to it!

Our Extended Families

Fun With Family

Our extended families are a big part of our lives! They are scattered around the country, and we love traveling to visit them. It can be a lot of work coordinating visits with our extended family, but we know relationships take work to maintain. Jordan was born in Texas and both of us have family living there now. We have a special connection to the Lone Star State. On a recent trip to Texas, we had some of Alison's family join us for dinner with Jordan's family so we could have more time with everyone. We alternate the major holidays that we spend at home or visiting family. Our town has a lot of activities available year-round, like ice skating or walking, and it is fun to share them when we have visitors.

Easter With Oma & Opa

When we get together, we love to cook and talk. Our nephew and son are both toddlers, so most gatherings are spent chasing them around, playing with cars and trucks, and reading books. Our sister-in-law is currently pregnant with twins and there will be cousins to play with very soon. The family has a healthy competitive nature. When the children are older, we will play board games and cards as a family.

Our House and Neighborhood

Outside Our Home

We moved to Maine specifically for the outdoor activities available all year round. Though the town we live in is a smaller one, it has a big community feel. There are events monthly such as food trucks, art festivals, charity events and even reindeer visiting in December! We are only a few miles from the Coast where boating, kayaking and swimming are popular in the summer.

We live on a cul-de-sac outside of town on 5 acres of land. Outside has an airplane swing between two trees and a swing set with a slide in the warmer months. The yard is full of toys - power wheels car and tractor, a log cabin and all types of balls. Our house is a 3-bedroom colonial style home with big windows. You can always see the beautiful trees that surround our property and the wildlife that comes with it. Sometimes we just watch the deer or birds outside.

The house has an open floor plan downstairs perfect for playing. The living room is always covered in toys, blocks and books! We also have an unfinished basement that we use for playing soccer and getting energy out when the weather isn't cooperating. Our town and the surrounding area have miles of hiking trails and many state parks which we love to explore. Every weekend we go to a playground or a local farm with animals. There's a reason Maine is known as Vacationland!

From Us to You

We are honored that you are considering us to raise your child as our own and love him or her beyond measure. Frankly, we are an awesome family who wants to add more people to it.

We are a married lesbian couple who have been together for over ten years. During our relationship we have talked many times about what expanding the family would look like. One of us was able to undergo fertility treatment for our first child. The pregnancy led to the curious young boy we have now, Parker, but took a lot out of the mother that carried him. 2022 was full of fertility treatments that did not quite work and before going further we looked at adoption again. The thought of bringing a child into our house that could use a caring and supportive family while also helping a birth mother really hit home. While neither of us are adopted, it seemed like we could help two families instead of just ourselves and we like that.

We are a low-key family that thrives on being together and doing things we all enjoy. A lot of time is spent reading books, going to the library, choosing groceries based on which stores have the race car carts, and running around the house. We are looking for a young child to join our family and with whom to share our immense love. Parker is also excited about the prospect of a younger sibling that has more energy to play with him than we do. Every morning they will wake up knowing that he or she is loved, and every night go to sleep knowing the same. We will do our best to instill good values and raise the child open to new things.

Our family loves to be outside. Our backyard has a swing set, log cabin and plenty of power wheels to drive. Afternoons and weekends are spent exploring the area on family hikes and visiting as many playgrounds as we can. Saturday mornings we typically make pancakes before our adventures and spend most of breakfast laughing! Saturdays are the least structured day; we do things as they come up without a lot of planning. We love watching and playing sports and our son is quite the little soccer player. In the future, we want to expose Parker and our other children to many sports including baseball, soccer, basketball, and gymnastics to see what they enjoy and love. We are those parents that will be at every game cheering loudly and wearing the team mom shirts. Alternatively, if the children are more into art or something else, they have our support on that, too. We just want to be with our kiddos and show them our love through our presence and dedication to their well-being.

At the end of the day, our main goals are to have fun as a family and nurture our children into being kind and compassionate adults. They might be good at academics or sports, but success for us will be if they are good humans who take care of people and are considerate of others. The world can be a hard place and we want to raise children who help solve problems, rather than adding to them. We aren't perfect parents, but we love being the best parents we can be, and we want more than anything to share our love with another child. Our house is relaxed and is usually covered in toys, games, and random papers; despite that, we laugh and dance and make memories every day.

With love and appreciation,

Jordan & Alison
